AMD has officially introduced the EPYC 8004 series of server-class processors, marking the culmination of the 4th Generation EPYC family.
This particular series is not only focused on performance but also places significant emphasis on energy efficiency, platform density, and noise reduction. Due to the specifications, it is well-suited for a range of use cases, including intelligent edge processing, small to mid-scale cloud services, and even telecommunications services, all of which are part of the recommended applications.
Harnessing the efficiency-centric Zen 4c cores and the new SP6 socket, these processors offer streamlined memory and I/O capabilities, delivering up to twice the SPECpower performance per system watt compared to competitors. They also excel in tasks such as accelerated video encoding and handling IoT eEdge gateway workloads.
Efficient computing characteristics translate to reduced operational costs and, at times, indirectly lead to lower total cost of ownership (TCO) figures while maintaining impressive core density and throughput scalability.
AMD has also unveiled partner solutions, including Dell’s PowerEdge C6615 and Lenovo ThinkEdge SE455 V3 servers featuring these new chips, available to various B2B and prosumer clients. Additionally, cloud users can anticipate encountering similar virtual services powered by these processors within Microsoft Azure.
