Samsung Singapore has officially revealed the new Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 foldable smartphones for the local market.
We’ll start from the big boy Z Fold 5. The sizes stays the same at 7.6-inch when unfolded so from the get-go it is not that different from last year’s offering.
However, the power comes from the improved SoC which typically carries improved camera performance as well, since the camera setup is kind of identical too.
The shallower crease also means that there will be less distraction when using it unfolded and yeah, it is slightly thinner and lighter at 13.4mm and 253g.
Durability-wise, the frame is made with Armor Aluminum plus Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for top-to-toe protection.
As for software, boy they improved things by a lot. For one, the taskbar can hold more apps for quick access now.
Additionally, 4 popup windows can be opened at once and hidden away in a stacked widget.
You may also do a “drag and drop” gesture for quick file insertion, for example, dragging a photo from Gallery into Samsung Notes.
The Flex Mode Panel which is newly introduced can control multiple apps under a single interface too.
As for the S-Pen, it is thinner and smaller now but still does what it does, and no, no embedded slot for housing it.

Now moving on to the vertical flip boy Galaxy Z Flip5. The design is very reminiscent of the Z Flip4 but the main point is all about the cover screen.
Oh yeah, it is no longer being called the Cover Screen but rather the Flex Window now.
Contrary to the Fold, Samsung wants the outer display to do the heavy lifting this time around.
For example, you can have a ton of widgets for quick access and jump to whichever you need by zooming out.
Taking photos is as easy as you remember while keyboard input are much more intuitive and accurate.
Additionally, Samsung Pay can be easily launched for digital payments without unfolding the device.
For the gapless OCD people, yes there is no more gap in this generation.
The entire phone can be extended and laid flat on a surface. A big win.
Also, the device is slimmer at 15.1mm now while the main screen is slightly improved to have better max brightness.
