Singapore, 2 August 2019 – ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) and StarHub jointly announced the exclusive launch of 802.11ac WiFi gaming router ROG Rapture GT-AC2900, with Singapore consumers being the first in Southeast Asia and fourth in the world to have it.
Starting tomorrow, customers will get the high-performance router free-of-charge (Usual Price: $399) with the sign-up to StarHub’s new Turbo Gamer 2Gbps plan – a 2Gbps fibre home broadband service with no service activation and installation fees!
The ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 is built to give PC, console and mobile gamers a competitive edge. It features a suite of technologies – triple-level game acceleration, adaptive QoS, wtfast®, Dynamic Frequency Selection and MU-MIMO – to boost speeds and optimise internet routes between the home network and game servers for minimised ping times.
The ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 does not only look the part with bold new ROG ‘slash-cut’ design and Aura RGB lighting, it packs a punch when it comes to performance, security and ease-of-use.
It is equipped with AiProtection Pro, powered by Trend Micro, to protect the entire home network from threats. This real-time network protection service, which also offers users advanced parental controls, comes free for lifetime; no subscription is required. Users can also enjoy complete peace-of-mind, knowing that security and router firmware updates are done automatically.
Through the intuitive ASUS Router app, users can easily configure security and other router settings, including port forwarding, bandwidth limiter and network diagnostics, without needing to use a web interface on their PC.
Mr Karl Chu, General Manager for APAC, ASUS said, “Republic of Gamers was founded on this very determination to create an entire line-up of powerful and beautiful gear designed to help you win. We create products for those who dare to be different, who dare to challenge the status quo and those who dare to say I deserve nothing but the best in every game. We also understand that gamers at home will have to compete with all their devices before they compete with their enemies. ASUS ROG has gained plenty of gaming cred worldwide, and we cannot wait to turbocharge our customers’ gaming experience with top-notch and sleek gear, all without hurting their wallet.”
StarHub’s Turbo Gamer 2Gbps plan will be available for sign-up starting tomorrow at StarHub Shops and online: www.starhub.com/turbo-gamer. Customers will get the ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 at no additional cost (Usual price: $399). These customers will also have the option of buying an exclusive ROG gaming essentials bundle, comprising a keyboard, mouse and headset, at privileged rates.
With dual internet connections, the 2Gbps fibre broadband service gives customers the flexibility of setting up home networks to suit their needs, from wiring a dedicated gigabit network for resource-intensive gaming and cloud services to having separate wireless connections, without compromising on bandwidth and surfing experience.
StarHub customers get faster and more convenient access to Garena’s local servers, which are hosted on StarHub’s broadband network. This allows customers to experience lower-latency, smoother gameplay while on Garena’s games, including Free Fire, Speed Drifters, Arena of Valor, and League of Legends.
Key Feature 1: Triple-level game acceleration and NVIDIA GeForce NOW
The ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 offers users triple-level game acceleration, which prioritises gaming packets from the user’s gaming device to game servers and shortens ping times by as much as 75% for users to enjoy dramatically smoother online gaming.
The first step of triple-level game acceleration takes place through a dedicated gaming port on the ROG Rapture GT-AC2900. Traffic from any device connected to this port will automatically receive priority.
The second level, Game Boost, is adaptive QoS tuned for gaming that prioritises all gaming packets within the local network. This feature enables a smooth gaming performance even if other local network users perform other high-bandwidth activities.
Built-in support for wtfast® is the third step, optimising connections to ensure the shortest path to game servers around the world.
ASUS worked closely with NVIDIA to tune the ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 for NVIDIA GeForce Now certification. The router automatically configures QoS when a GeForce Now client device connects to the network, ensuring up to 90% of WiFi bandwidth is dedicated to GeForce Now gaming to provide an unrivalled cloud-gaming experience with minimal latency.
Note: GeForce Now is a beta service that is currently available only in the US and Europe.
Key Feature 2: Easy three-step port forwarding for console gamers
Console gamers may sometimes encounter network address translation (NAT) issues that can cause problems while teaming up with other players or attempting to host a match. While most routers provide NAT configuration abilities via port forwarding, it is often a complicated process. The ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 makes it simpler for users with Open NAT, a feature that provides NAT configuration in three easy guided steps over the ASUS Router app.
Key Feature 3: Mobile gaming without limits
The ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 features dynamic frequency selection (DFS) and multi-user, multiple input, multiple output (MU-MIMO) to further improve the gaming experience when connected via WiFi. DFS unlocks the least congested channels within the 5GHz band, ensuring minimal interference for smooth and fast gaming. MU-MIMO ensures peak performance for each compatible device, ideal when there are multiple gamers in one household or when inviting friends over for multiplayer games.
