Singapore, 19 August 2014 – Epson, a world leader in digital imaging and printing solutions returned to support the annual Aliwal Arts Night Crawl with engaging interactive projection and dazzling visual showcases on Friday, 15 August 2014. After a successful collaboration in Aliwal Arts Centre’s inaugural Aliwal Arts Night Crawl event in 2013, Epson loaned five of its commercial 3LCD projectors as the Official Projection Sponsor for two of the event’s key highlights – an interactive virtual graffiti project and a showcase of budding young artistic talents.
Said Ms Tan May Lin, General Manager, Epson Singapore (Sales Division), “Since last year, Epson has started to embark on a series of initiatives to develop innovative usage with our award-winning projectors. This year, we are pleased to extend our support to Aliwal once again in the area of visual projection of graffiti arts. Our latest interactive projectors allow users to paint with their fingers – literally. We hope that the creative combination of art and technology will further help up-and-coming artists transform their ideas into vibrant and exceptional expression of their works.”
With multi-disciplinary performances and a slew of activities from over 20 outfits, key highlights of the Night Crawl include the Community Graffiti project at the courtyard of Aliwal. Artists and members of the public can “paint” virtual graffiti onto a wing of Aliwal Arts Centre’s façade, using their bare fingers and Epson’s EB-595Wi interactive projector. The world’s first 3LCD, touch-enabled interactive projector uses infrared technology to detect the movements of fingers. Bright vibrant projections were projected due to its brightness level of up to 3300 lumens, and the high contrast ratio of 10000: 1.
Antz, co-founder of the design collective The Geeksigners and a well-known urban artist, was the first to try out the interactive projector in the Community Graffiti project. “The finger touch enabled experience makes it possible for me to work on any surface. The sleek and compact design of Epson’s projector also makes it a pleasure to design and draw. Definitely my best ever experience of working with interactive projectors,” Antz said.
Budding young artists from NTU’s School of Art, Design and Media had the opportunity to showcase some of their work on Aliwal Arts Centre’s façade. Using Epson’s EB-G6550WU, EB-G6050W, and two of EB-4750W projectors, a variety of work from still images to multimedia projects transformed the centre into a kaleidoscope of youthful colours.
2014 marks the 25th anniversary of Epson’s revolutionary 3LCD technology, as well as its 13th year to receive the accolade as the World’s No 1 Projector Brand. The collaboration with Aliwal Arts Centre is among on-going collaborations to showcase creative applications of Epson’s projectors by challenging traditional boundaries with the latest technology.
