As the release of Haswell comes closer, the number of unreleased motherboards that have surfaced on the internet also increases. Previously, we saw some Z87 motherboards from Gigabyte and today, we take a look at MSI’s Z87-GD65.
This motherboard is targeted at gamers, providing various gaming focused features for the ultimate gaming experience. To make it even more obvious to gamers, MSI has now included the word “Gaming” on the box.
MSI Z87-GD65 comes in a red and black colour combination, similar to those from ASUS’ Republic of Gamers series. This motherboard will support all new Haswell processors. This also means that there will be native USB 3.0 and more SATA 6Gbps ports directly from the chipset.
MSI is trying to differentiate themselves from this motherboard by providing a higher quality sound chip and components. This area is often neglected by manufacturers as they fail to realise that the quality of sound output directly affects user experience. MSI used a Sound Blaster audio chip for Z87-GD65, equipping the best audio technology from Creative Technologies to produce extraordinary audio quality which is clearer, more accurate and more efficient.
The motherboard requires a standard EPS 8 pin power plug to power the CPU, and there are also a number of useful quick access buttons and features found on board. These include the power and reset switch, OC Genie button for overclocking and a DEBUG POST CODE LED for quick troubleshooting.
The motherboard also comes with Dual BIOS with a small switch to switch between them. Additionally, all the components used on the motherboard are certified under MSI’s Military Class IV feature, meaning that they are of the best quality to ensure that users can be assured of reliability and durability.
This product also comes with a lot of accessories as shown in the image above.
MSI Z87-GD65 is configured to have these expansion ports :
- 3 x PCI-e 3.0 x16
- 3 x PCI-e 3.0 x1
- 6 x SATA 6Gbps
- 6 x USB 3.0 Ports
- Gigabit Ethernet provided by Killer NIC E2200
- VGA/DVI/HDMI
- 7.1 Audio Output by Creative Sound Blaster Core
The motherboard also has full support for Multi GPU Configurations, i.e. SLI and CrossFireX.
The launch of this product will be made during the first week of next month, together with the announcement of Intel’s fourth generation Core Series of Processors – Haswell
